There are so many structural reasons why Tumblr spawned the kinds of interaction it did, it's hard to know where to start. Maybe "lack of a usable comment system," "lack of locally-moderated communal spaces," and "abysmal signal-to-noise ratio with no filtering tools." We've all got Content Exhaustion and maybe there's some "I just want to talk to a human? who I like???" in there. It would help explain why Discord is where so much of the activity's at right now.
