more Paris.

Been getting settled in in Paris; I've been placed with an older (sixty-ish) woman with adult children who've left home. The internet is broken until tomorrow, or I would've updated sooner. All is going well, more or less. A few bureaucratic glitches (DC still hasn't sent a copy of my birth certificate and I need one for a residence permit, I don't have my bank PIN yet, etc) but overall things are starting to roll. I'm living in the 9th arrondisement, a bit uphill from the Opera and the Galeries Lafayette, not far from the Musee de la Vie Romantique. Writing this from one of Smith's computers, which thankfully has an American keyboard layout.

I'm sure none of you want to hear the tiny details of me getting settled in and all the quasi-touristy things I've been doing, so I will confine myself to one anecdote: a two-year-old boy named Marius was very entertained by my (extremely red) hair while I was waiting in line for Berthillon. He kept grabbing it and his parents kept yelling at him (which is how I learned his name), but it was pretty much the cutest thing ever. (Also, Berthillon. Mmmmmmmm.)

Also, I have been eating a lot of vegetables. Maman would be proud of me.
