Tidbits

Just a few random things:

1. Sic Transit Opera Mundi just put up download links for operatic adaptations of Hugo's Ruy Blas and Vigny's Chatterton. The Chatterton one is by Leoncavallo, the recording is from 1908, and it's one of very, very few recordings of 19th century operas conducted by the original composer. And if you're interested in opera based on French Romantic theatre, Sic Transit has also posted several recordings of Verdi's 'Ernani' in the past and they should be findable with the search function.

2. Lol so apparently musicals.net is back online. And about to migrate to phpBB version 3. And possibly not bothering to import all the old posts, so they might just disappear. Have attempted to contact the mods about maintaining a read-only archive of the Les Mis board, since it's kind of one of the only two active hubs of the LM fandom and it goes back to 2005. Might end up having to host it on my webspace if they don't want to keep it on their servers or only migrate some of the threads.

3. Made meat pies for dinner tonight! And sang at them all through the cooking process. My mother was alternately horrified and in stitches of laughter at my gleeful rendition of 'A Little Priest.'

4. Babysitting went on longer than expected, as the afternoon babysitter called in sick with the exact same fever the little girl has. So I guess I can expect to get horribly sick sometime this weekend, but the kid was well-behaved and easy to take care of, and I got a boatload of money for coming in last-minute/staying overtime/risking the flu of doom. And I got to teach a five-year-old how to shoot rubber bands and play "rocks fall everyone dies" with her toy animal figurines, which seemed to delight her to no end when she wasn't demanding more Encyclopedia Brown.
