KMFDM sucks!

Fuckin' hell, that has to be THE BEST show I have ever been to. Granted, I'm not a concert-whore and I haven't been to that many shows, but still.

A lot of it was KMFDM themselves. Despite all my hatred for Watts and Lucia as far as studio recordings go, I have to admit they're amazing live--especially Raymond. They played a lot of good songs--especially toward the end--and all-around owned. Three encores, dude. I've been singing Juke Joint Jezebel under my breath all day, and I don't even like the studio version. And of course Sascha kicked ass. I fangirl him in the most non-sexual way possible--he's too awesome not to. I'd have to say that of the songs I recognised (their discography is huge), WWIII, Juke Joint Jezebel, Light, Godlike, A Drug against War, Sturm und Drang, and Intro were the best.

But a lot of it was also the audience. Lots of rivetheads, lots of androgynous boys, lots of cool people. I spent half the concert in the front rows, squished like a sardine among people twice my height, and in close quarters like that it's amazing how reactive the crowd was. [I grabbed Raymond's mic, haha]. I also spent the last half in the pits, and I have to say: these people know how to mosh. They get it. They understand that the point of moshing is not to crush the littlest guy, it's to have fun slamming into each other. Light and Godlike had the best pits EVER.

There were a number of other little things that made the show more enjoyable--no pot, no beer spilled on the floor, no 400-pound menaces in the pits, you didn't have half the audience smoking like in Type O Negative. Little things like that help. Oh, and I guess the three no-doze pills I had before I went didn't hurt either, although my kneecaps were doing a funny little shake-dance all through Bile's performance. (Bile were good, by the way).

And only at a KMFDM show do you get cheered and slapped on the back before the encore for shouting, "KMFDM sucks!" at the top of your lungs. Don't ask, it's a fan in-joke...

Anyway, I don't know, there was just something about this show. KMFDM were AMAZING, if they haven't yet come to your city go see them when they do.

By the way, if any Lj-stalkers were there at that particular show, I was the skinny, runty, really SHORT dude with the Live Free or Die shirt and the spikey hair.

NOTE: Like my Matrix review, this was written this morning and now in the afternoon I have an update on the more... er... long-term effects of the concert. Specifically, my two pulled muscles, assorted bruises, stabbing headaches, and stiff knee. Not to mention that my ears didn't stop ringing until noon, I fell asleep in Algebra when the caffeine finally wore off, and I did not get the solo in chorus because I lost my voice from shouting along. It was worth it, though, and I got to rub in Doug's face that I saw them and he didn't.

On an unrelated tangent, I've been named co-president of GSA by default because I was the only one besides the president who showed up to both meetings. Time to go recruiting for the insidious homosexual agenda...
