Phantom of the Opera Canadian-style

My Canadian soundtrack finally arrived! And... um... well, the orchestra was good. Very good, in fact.

But I am seriously out to shoot their musical director, or whoever the hell told the entire fucking cast to sing it pop. Jesus H. Christ on a pogo stick, most of their voices themselves were better than the London cast, but someone needs to tell them to get right to the note and stay on the note instead of doing Christina Aguilera imitations all over the place. Yes, Christina Aguilera. Even though it was recorded in 1990. And then tell them to quit overacting and put some real emotion in it. Yes, Mr. Wilkinson, I'm talking to you--surely you understand that to make a grand crescendo to fortissimo, you cannot start at forte--same deal with acting. If you're gasping and shouting and puffing all over the set in Act I, we're really not moved by your impressive display of emotion in the final scene. We'll feel very sorry for you on the "Masquerade" reprise, but only because you finally stopped trying to sing and actually sang, and that's when you can finally break our hearts. And... um... what was with the weird dipthong thing on the last note of "Music of the Night?"

This recording actually pissed me off a bit, because all their voices were so good and all their style was so bad. What a fucking waste.

But ooooh, the orchestra. If good acting is putting real emotion into your music, then the orchestra were better actors than the cast. I want to have that orchestra's babies.

So, in short, Micheal Crawford is still the best Phantom I've heard so far. We'll see though... I go to see it in New York this weekend!
