And away I go!
Off I go on my great ill-planned adventure!
And when I say ill-planned I mean I've scribbled down enough train timetables to know what I'm doing until Thursday, kind of. I am pretty much setting out on a two-week vacation with nothing but a backpack full of clothes, a railpass, and a four-page list of youth hostels in eight different cities. No reservations, nothing. (Okay, hotel reservation for the weekend in Digne, after that I'm on my own.)
No, I am not an idiot, I checked hostel availability online for the week of my trip and none of them appear to be booked solid, and I plan on doing night trains rather than hostels most of the time anyway. Also, not having reservations allows me to make last-minute changes. As in, I decided ten minutes ago that Berlin is going to be my last stop, not my second-to-last, because OMG there is a performance of Fidelio at the Komische Oper Berlin on May 1st and THERE ARE STILL TICKETS.
I was supposed to spend all day getting ready, but somehow I ended up going to the Marais for delicious kosher pastries instead because my friend wanted to know where the vintage shops were. And then I came home and read half of The Well of Loneliness and basked in the melancholy ache of recognition instead of packing. Ooooops. Oh well, I'm all packed now, so off I go to bed.
