Les Mis tour!
I have spent this week reaping the pain and bad grades of my academic hell, so when I realized Les Mis was already in previews I ran off to the Théâtre du Châtelet and got there twenty minutes before curtain to ask about last-minute tickets. (Why are they doing previews? To get used to the theatre's equipment?) Turns out last-minute tickets were €20 in all price categories--it might have just been for previews, but I am fairly sure the box office lady said it was for the entire run. GOOD TO KNOW. I got orchestra row N, which was not a bad seat at all.
Mini-review posted here; longer review possibly forthcoming; audio definitely forthcoming. The really short version is: they are taking the show out of the London black-box and putting it in context. This usually succeeds, occasionally doesn't, and raises continuity questions that were not in the black-box-and-revolving-stage version. They've got good stuff (some of it yoinked from the US mini-tour), they just need to tinker with it more.
Also, I overheard the following conversation in the rows behind me:
"And I've heard the English call it Les Miz."
"Why on earth would they want to do that?"
"I don't know, they have this mania for shortening names. Next thing you know they'll be calling Jean Valjean Ja-Ja."
