All right, I finally gave in to the pressure from you theater types to go expose myself to some Les Miserables. Didn't hurt that the campus library has a copy of the 10th anniversary dream cast concert video thingie, so I plopped down with that for two and a half hours this afternoon.
Thoughts:
-I don't hate Colm Wilkinson anymore. I still think he sucks in Phantom, but he makes a great Valjean.
-Fantine wasn't what I expected. Okay, I had no idea how the story went or her role in it before I watched, but I think I had been internally confusing her name with the crazy knitting lady in Tale of Two Cities for a long time. I have no idea why. *fwaps brain*
-Lea Salonga = teh hawt.
-Marius and Cosette need to shut the fuck up.
-Enjolras = RAWK. "Shut up about your love already, monkey boy, we're starting a fuckin' revolution!" Some combination of the looks, the voice, and the revolutionary thing made me go *wibble* and suddenly my sexual orientation has another dent in it. Damn.
-But Lea Salonga still = teh hawt.
-I so should not see so many slash opportunities on my first viewing.
-Empty Chairs at Empty Tables. OMG. I get the impression it's considered overplayed, but there's a reason for that.
-Michael Maguire as Enjolras deserves another mention. Because dude. His voice. *thud*
The concert presentation was a little fucked up though. I would've liked to have seen what was actually going on instead of just the actors standing at the microphone in costume. At least there was some stuff, like the barricade scene, that appeared to have been spliced in from a filming of the show itself, but still.
Overall? Yeah, I liked it, but I'm not really a theater person at heart. I might download a few songs later tonight, but overall it didn't leave me with the "omgwow" feeling. I can see why people like it, but it's not really my thing and I doubt I'll get into it.

And damn your icon. That song's been stuck in my head all morning.

*cough* Plus, I kept criticizing the guy playing Marius, cause even though he was pretty good I kept imagining what Hugh would have done in his place, since he played Marius at one point, and was therefore disappointed. Heh.

If we're thinking of the same version, then yes, Lea Salonga IS hot.
