Need help with selecting an audition piece...

Firstly, what do they mean when they say 'short?' Could I get away with, say, a truncated version of 'Wishing You Were Somehow Here Again' that includes a verse, a chorus, the modulation and the ending? Or do they mean short short, like 30 seconds or less?

Second, anything in particular I should avoid? Obviously I'm not going to do 'On My Own' or anything when I'm trying to get in as a soprano, but anything that will likely get me rejected?

Oh, and if anyone's familiar with 'Company,' feel free to give me info on the plot and the roles, as it's what I'm trying out for.

Have three or four possibilities selected so far, and will post samples of me singing them tomorrow or Saturday. Or maybe later tonight, who knows.

I know about Company. It's a show about this one guy and his friends, but focuses on him "Bobby".

My favourite song in it is "Being alive" only problem is it's Bobby's song. But if you did it as an audition piece it's always good.
