tenlittlebullets: (writing Gothic in Elder Futhark is bad)

(no subject)

My current geeky ambition, doubtless to be given up at some point in search of a new one: I wish to teach myself ancient Greek. And once I have caught on significantly enough to read texts in it (it happened fast enough with Gothic), I wish to move on to the dialect in which the original Gospels were written. Why? No idea. Because dead languages are fun. Because dead languages applied to the study of sacred texts are even more fun. Because I will be able to whip ass in the 'was thus-and-such passage in the KJV mistranslated?' game in online debates. I eventually want to dabble in Latin, Aramaic, Hebrew, and Coptic as well, but ancient Greek can be a start.

However, it will have to wait until my assload of end-of-semester work is complete. *glares at heaps of homework*

Latin is fun. I took several years of it before I changed schools and they didn't offer it anymore. I hope to take it again when I go back to College. And yes dead languages are fun. (Dreams of learning Aramaic)

I did Latin for like, 4 years when I was younger. It really helped me in Spanish in high school and like, now.

What are you majoring in anyway?

Not a bloody clue. Will probably be something linguistics-related though.

I admire your determination, but let me warn you that ancient greek is a bitch... I've had it for 2 1/2 years now, and it's the coolest thing ever, but it's bloody hard.
