Anyone know if there's any sort of legal penalty--civil or criminal, or lawsuits or whatever--that can be inflicted for informing a suicidal person of quick and relatively painless ways to die? Or am I legally obliged to give the 'every life is sacred, you have a reason to live, this is a cry for attention' spiel?

I think you could be charged with murder, assisting in a murder, or at least conspiracy to commit murder. I don't know why, since the person wants to die, but there you go.

God damn. And I'm just trying to make sure the poor bastard doesn't do something stupid like take 50 advil and die slowly over the course of weeks from liver failure...

It isn't murder, but it would be considered "counselling a suicide," which is illegal.

i lost my betrothed to suicide this summer. it's not a joking matter. it's something to take very seriously, and personally, i would NOT recommened any methods to help this person. if you really want to help, direct them in ways to NOT follow through with suicide. it's incredibly painful, and maybe i'm just an opitimist, but there are other options. those who get left behind - they never recover. i can barely survive myself let alone see his parents and brother try to cope. i can't even describe it to you.

but as for laws - i believe they go by state. check with your local authorities if you're very curious. pretty sure it's illegal in michigan.

i'm sorry. i guess it's not my business. but it's just a very sensitive topic for me.

Well if you told him, he didn't tell anyone and no one found out then no. But since ya kinda just told us....eat the evidence!!!
