No, I'm not going to make a sappy New Year post, dammit.
Saw the Phantom movie again, this time with my dad in tow. We had fun mocking the continuity errors and Gerard's "singing" and such, enough to let me just sit back and try to enjoy it when Gerry wasn't on screen. Dad told me Carlotta reminded him uncannily of one of his clients, and we argued over whether it was a mistake to cast Emmy or not. Also noteworthy is that it seemed to be a slightly different version in places: the "grovel!" line was taken out, and they fixed "when will the blood begin to roas...er... race," for instance. Not much, but it was definitely different.
By the final lair, though, I was just giggling at the absurdity of it all. Raoul didn't appear to be tied that tightly to the portcullis, and in fact could easily have squirmed loose if he'd wanted to, which makes one wonder whether he secretly enjoys that sort of thing. But he was the only character of the lot who was actually likeable--movie!Erik and movie!Christine fuckin' deserve each other.
Now I just really want to make a porno version of Phantom. Featuring Meg/Christine, voyeur!Erik (behind the mirror AND on the rooftop! naughty!), Andre/Firmin, mass orgies in the ballet dormitories and behind the scenes at the masquerade, graveyard seks, PoRN PoNR, and of course a final lair that involves bondage, asphyxiphilia, Erik attempting to rape Christine only to discover that she likes it, and plenty of threesome action. The fun bit being that it would actually preserve most of the plot as well.
