Job prospects = teh suck

So. After a cursory probe of possible employment at local shopping centers [meaning "walk into any store that looks halfway interesting and ask how old you have to be to work there"], I have discovered several bad things.

B. Dalton [and most likely Barnes & Noble too, since they're affiliated] does not hire anyone under 18. Neither does Radio Shack. Or the video store up the street.

In fact, of all the places I went today, only two were willing to hire 17-year-olds.

CVS. And Hot Topic.

*cries*

[Okay, all is not lost. I'm going into town tomorrow to scout out the movie theater, the Blockbuster, all the various thrift stores, and whatever else catches my eye. But... Hot Topic? Gah. Okay, okay, I walked away from that twenty dollars poorer due to the lure of purple hair dye and a Bauhaus shirt. But still.]

You have my sympathies. Being underage sucks. *21 at last*

NO! Not Hot Topic! They will steal your soul along with all your self respect.

Did you say purple hair dye? I thought you were bald. . .

Ehehe, it's grown back a bit. Enough to dye, anyway.

And I think it's a matter of which would steal my soul more, CVS or Hot Topic. They're both snatching at it.

True. . . .at CVS you'd have to wear that stoopid red smockthingy. *shivers*

At Hot Topic you can get discounted hair dye and stuff. At CVS you can get discounted candy bars and magazines.

Trust me when I tell you either one beats fast food.

Have you tried your local public library? Mine hired me at 16. It was a sweet part time job. A little heavy lifting involved, but overall a nice, quiet way to spend eight hours.

Good luck on the job hunt.

Barnes and Noble SAYS they only hire 18 and up, but a girl from my grade worked there last summer. Their only worry about hiring people under 18 is because they're not supposed to keep them until midnight (ie, closing time) or something like that. But yeah, it's worth asking them.
