So, my Les Mis tickets for today are bought. One for the matinee to see Ivan, one for the evening to see Jeff.
My Greyhound ticket is bought and paid for.
I set my alarm.
I actually got up when my alarm went off.
I gave myself enough time to have a cup of tea, get dressed, pack a book and my tickets, and drive to the Greyhound station to make the 8:00 bus.
Wait. Wait. Ohshit. Street parking around the station is only free on weekends. This has not been a problem before, because I was in the habit of going up Sundays. I'm pretty sure it's a two-hour meter, and I'll be gone all day.
Think. Is there time to drive to Bethesda, get a long-term metered spot, walk to the Metro station, take the Metro out to where the bus station is, then walk over there? No. Can I wake up my mother and ask for a ride? Not if I value my hide, it isn't even seven o'clock yet. Are there pay lots around the station? Yes, but I don't know if they're open this early. Shit. What to do?
My friends, it looks like I'm driving to New York today.
(I can use the bus ticket next week. And next week, I vow, I will get up extra early and poke around the neighborhoods for someplace with free parking.)
Edit: Anyone remember my repeated oaths that there was no amount of love or money that could get me to drive in Manhattan? Apparently all it takes is a garage that'll give me almost 12 hours of parking for $20-$25. We'll see how it goes; if the traffic on the turnpike is icky, I might chicken out and go to Hoboken.
