tenlittlebullets: (peachy keen!)
Somehow I started out at the website of a local company that might be able to fix my other laptop (which has been dead since June), then I wandered to the support section of HP's website, and so on and so forth until by some obscene combination of Googling and Wikipedia searches I ended up on Tiger Direct ogling parts and fantasizing about building my own computer. God dammit, I'd almost forgotten about Tiger Direct, vile pit of temptation that it is. They also have a $300 desktop with really nice specs (dual-core 2.2GHz Intel, 4Gb memory, 250Gb storage, 20x DVD burner) that comes without an operating system; I'm so incredibly tempted to blow the three hundred bucks on it, then another seventy for a 1TB hard drive, then put Ubuntu on it and laugh in the face of everyone who spent obscene amounts of money for that much computer.

But I won't, because if I can get my other laptop fixed it won't be an issue. Not even the deeply tempting 1Tb hard drive, since an external with that kind of storage wouldn't actually cost too much more.

Mmmmmm, shiny shiny electronics.
