I am such a gigantic dork for buying this. My inner historical research geek is jumping up and down in glee, while my not-so-inner fandom geek watches with amusement and eggs him on.
And meanwhile my inner slacker is asserting that I can't possibly write the AU that's been gnawing at me for months until I've read this book, because obviously I don't know nearly enough about political unrest in 19th century France to write a believable "the barricade doesn't fall on 6 June" fic. Of course there's plenty of that fic that I could write without the research, since that AU is where I relegate any miscellaneous cracked-out ideas that can easily be tailored to the barricade setting. Such as Jean Prouvaire's canon-bending older brother or not-so-canon-bending close male relation. Or the Enjolras with a definite and embarrassing reason for looking pretty and five years younger than he really is. Or that one scene between--well, you get the idea. Most of this should never, ever see the light of day, but on the off-chance I do decide to put it up, it needs a frame story and the frame story needs research. And so my inner slacker is trying to convince me to put it off until I've read the book.
Fuck. *runs upstairs to do more work on the sketch of E and R's death scene*
And did I mention I finally got around to learning whatthefuck the blend modes in Photoshop do? Oh dear, it's only a matter of time until I'm using *gasp* brushes. Ewww, how poncey and pretentious. (And speaking of poncey and pretentious, I finally learned how to make tiny fuck-off unreadable text properly. ph33r.)
This is as close as I've gotten lately to a gushing outburst of creativity. It really does wonderful things for my mood.
