OMG NO I MUSTN'T. I am saving for the road trip. I am saving for the road trip. I do not have the cash to throw away on the Varmland single. NO I DO NOT. Butit'ssoshiny.
Re-watched the TAC for the first time in ages.
- Is Michael Maguire a baritone attempting to sing a very tenor part? Every time I see him he annoys me more.
- Philip Quast is the sex. Just, y'know, in case anyone forgot. I did, but this put me firmly back in my place.
- You can see the exit sign aaaaall through ALFOR. It must be symbolic. Eponine's tortured soul is flying away towards the exit sign. Yes.
- AHFOL is boring. Marius and Cosette have to fall in love for the plot to grind on, but LM isn't a romancey sort of love story, and there's no pretext of originality in AHFOL. It doesn't even matter what they're saying, really, which is why the shitty lyrics have stopped annoying me. They're in love, they say stupid things, it seems wonderful to them and really dumb to everyone else. That works.
- Michael Ball has a good voice and his Marius is adorable, but he's too old on the TAC, I'm sorry. He looks like a cross between a televangelist and the guy you'd hire to sing muzak at some posh event or another.
- I find it intensely ironic that the first thing I ever loved about LM was how gen-ish it was. The first time I saw the TAC I think I cheered aloud at "Who cares about your lonely soul?"--"fuck the romance, let's get to the revolution" was what I originally found endearing about Enjolras. I think slash has turned into a bad habit for me and my higher brain is revolting against it.
- The microphone arrangement in One Day More still amuses me.
- I wibbled all through the Sad Oboe Solo of Dead Frenchboys for the first time in ages. I thought it had stopped affecting me. dangling!Enjy looks far more Enjolraic than Michael Maguire.
- Still can't see what anyone ever liked about Judy Kuhn. Her voice completely lacks that sweet quality that Cosette needs.
- At the end of Master of the House, someone--I think it's Jerome Pradon--snuggles another Frenchboy and it amuses me.
- Audios don't give you as much of the actor's interpretation as videos. After having seen multiple people in the various roles, I think the only people on the TAC who hold up as The Best are PQ and Ruthie. The rest are either sub-par, good-but-I've-seen-better, or in a role where I've seen many equally valid interpretations. Though of all the casts I've listened to, I still think the TAC has the best all-around cohesion, and for that I'll put up with two or three people I don't like.
- Mummykins popped in for the ending and the encores. She did a great big "omg" face when Jeff Leyton did his verse of DYHTPS and went "his voice!"

Michael Maguire freaks me out. He's like a giant, plastic Ken Doll. He blinks the way a doll does.
I'm all for the Butterball mockery. ;)
I saw Jeff Leyton as Valjean. No comment other than his "fliiiiiight" was very... Beach Boys falsetto.

random thoughts of my own
Judy, I hate on the TAC. I try to like her, because I adore her in other things, but this is just no.
Jerome Pradon leaping on Peter Polycarpou is one of the cutest moments in the entire thing.
I hate Jeff Leyton. Hate him.
Re: random thoughts of my own
Have only heard Judy Kuhn in LM and Pocahontas, and it's been ages since I watched the latter. Can't stand her in LM.
It is. XD
I... should have an opinion on Jeff Leyton, because I have an entire bootleg with him as Valjean, but I don't. I only listen to the JOJ-bits on that recording anyway.

Sigh. I'm a bit the same. When I first saw the TAC I was quite the fan but then I heard Warlow and realised that it was more the character than his voice that I enjoyed. Then I heard several others and realised that Maguire injects a lot of passion into the role but his singing just isn't up to scratch. I heard a rumour that Warlow was asked but because he and Quast were both headlining the same production in Sydney (The Secret Garden) they couldn't both go. I have no idea if it's true but it's so saaaad- we could've had Anthony Warlow! Then again he probably would've looked much to old for the part by then (even though I think Maguire is older he has more hair...). [/babbling]
Exit sign: Baha that annoys me so much.
PQ: Yes. When he hits that note in the Confrontation? "Chains" *shiver*
AHFOL: I actually like it. I know, I know, I'm like a freak of nature. Hardly anybody I know likes it. It's just that Marius is so endearing-
"I'm doing everything all wrong! Oh God, for shame, I do not even know your name [...] My name is Marius Pontmercy [...]Cosette, I don't know what to say [...] I am lost"
He's so sweet and young and naive and unsure and just so goddamned sweet. This song is what endears me towards Marius/Cosette. I mean, after this first part with unsure-panicking!Marius is does get a little dull but I still like it.
Michael Ball has a good voice and his Marius is adorable, but he's too old on the TAC, I'm sorry.
Yes but his ECAET, particularly "Oh my friends, my friends!" is just heaven, so I don't care :)
The Best are PQ and Ruthie
Huzzah. Ruthie seems to get a bit of a bad wrap but I love her in this.
I still think the TAC has the best all-around cohesion
Same here. It's frustrating to get to a favourite song and know that there's one or two characters in there that aren't on the same level though.
And also:
Mummykins popped in for the ending and the encores
Encores?! WHAT. I do not have these *cries*.
...oh, and I recently got my hands on Sydney 1998 if you don't have it...

*Even though Maguire is older, I think, he (Maguire) has more hair
...I give up. There's to many others to fix and I...don't care. Lol.

Thethethe... the speeches. And the multilingual rendition of DYHTPS. And One Day More. That thing. You don't have it?

...eww D: I think Mike Sterling and Peter Polycarpou should have switched roles. At least Mike Sterling is somewhat prettyful. Even if he does look autistic sometimes. XDD;;
And omg YES, Matt Cammelle is SO hot. Lemme direct ya somewheres, btw...
http://www.zunshine.com/miserables/cast.html there are teh pictures and stuff there. Much shiny. And there's more pictures on the message board. XD Because of my asking. Yay for pictures of Darryl Knock with his hand on Matt Cammelle's shoulder. :0

IMHO, Warlow is the best Enjolras on any recording I've heard thus far. You?

PHIL QUAST OMG YES. I watched the TAC the other day too and I'd somewhat forgotten too. Then I cried because I want a good Javert.
I actually think AHFOL is hilarious if played in the right way... most of the time it's zzzzzzz.
And when I watched it the other day? I was all "Huh" at Ruthie. I used to be "OMGOMG" about her -- I still think she's really good, but Kerry? Kerry is better.
Phil Cavill in the extras heeee!
