I'm almost done with The Count of Monte Cristo, and I was quite vexed to discover that not only was my version abridged, it cut out the entire Cavalcanti subplot, as well as Eugénie and Louise. Honestly! With that much liberty taken in abridgment, how is one to know how fiercely MM. Dumas and Hugo were striving for the title of Most Blatant Homosexual Subtext Evar?

Why, I might have to write Eugénie/Cosette as an act of personal revenge against the editor.

Oh, the Cavalcanti subplot is brilliant. (And not most because I kept giggling, the Dante fangirl in me doesn't go away)

YES WRITE EUGENIE/COSETTE. </fangirl capslock>

Eugenie/Cosette or Hugo/Dumas RPS? *ponders* I mean, both pairs were more-or-less contemporaries.

</evil grin>

Maaaaybe. But I have eight zillion plotbunnies to work through first.

Bah. I'm almost done reading, too, and I've got the unabridged version, and with a cleaned up translation. Omg, Eugenie is so gay. I love it. And I love the Calvacanti subplot. In fact, I love this book in its entirety. I'm sorry you got a suck version. :(

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
It's not all suck, because that book in general wins, but if I ever reread I'll have to be sure to pick up the full version.

Eugénie is so gay, and god dammit, she shouldn't give me so many plotbunnies. Shoo! I have enough of you already!

[identity profile] imadra-blue.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 05:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, it does win. And after CoMC, I re-read the unabridged and freshly translated of Three Musketeers. My literary life is good. :D

Eeee, you should. Horrible abridgments deserve crackpairings of vengeance.

Well it could be worse, you could have watched that 2002 movie that cut Haydee out so Edmond and Mercedes could be a happy little couple.

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-06-22 03:02 pm (UTC)(link)
*shudder* I watched that a while ago. Didn't it cut out most of the plot, and severely tamper with what remained? Ewwww.

We should hold Brick-sparring matches. Like cockfights, only with copies of Les Misérables and The Count of Monte Cristo.

My copy of the Brick has teeth. Does yours?

Besides, if we let them try to out-ramble each other, it would take even longer than an eight-player Monopoly game.

If you write Eugenie/Cosette, I'll post a picture I drew of Courfeyrac in an art gallery that uses the term "scrotum pole", just like you dared. It's already done, so the promise is valid! Pleeease?

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-06-24 03:34 am (UTC)(link)
....that's tempting. That's very tempting. I shall put it on the plotbunny waiting list.

Score! I need my Les Mis femmeslash, and there's only so much you can do with the characters provided.
