Bought my Les Mis tickets, finally. I must have good Ticketmaster karma or something; I'm pretty sure I got second-row balcony in Indianapolis. And, okay, the closing night seat sucks--fifteenth row orchestra--but I think it's about as good as I'm going to get on a show that's probably thisclose to being sold out.

Should probably go out and busk some more, as I don't exactly plan to kick around the Midwest doing nothing for ten days, and would like to see the show a few more times between the 14th and 23rd. But am tired and voice is screwy from staying up all night and too many stimulants. Blah. Maybe I should bring the bowed psaltery and accompany myself.

It's approaching the 4th. I could probably get away with singing bleeding-heart patriotic music this time of year, much as it makes me want to barf. The co-opting of the term "patriotism" to mean "blind faith in one's country and/or its leaders" irks me to no end--I'll gladly sing about rallying 'round the flag and shouting the battle cry of freedom, but that Lee Greenwood song is icky. Commemoration of actually fighting for freedom beats orgies of complacent self-love any day.

Besides, "I'm proud to be an American, where at least I know I'm free" makes my inner grammarian twitch madly.

That, and no one gets hanged from the lamp-posts in American patriotic music.
