The hell.

I overdrew my bank account almost a month ago, and only got notification of it today. The kicker?

I overdrew by 21 cents. The fee is $25. I'm so pissed.

I mean... I haven't made any deposits since then, but still. When the fee is over 100 times the original overdraft, it's just fucking ridiculous.

That's...really absurd.

Complain. Dangle the possibility of switching banks in front of them.

I'll probably just mail them two dimes, a penny, and a deposit slip with "please close my account" written on it. It was my bank at school; I'm at home now; I was meaning to close the account anyway. :P

Yeah, that happened to my father once, only it was 13 cents. I think if you call the bank and appeal a bit they might let you off, though. It's worth a try?

Huh. Sounds like my experience with one of the banks here where I live. I deposited a paycheck. And then a week later I used my debit card. Another week later, I got an overdraft notice. It would have been an overdraft before the deposit, but not after. I went into the bank, showed them the letter, explained I'd made a deposit easily a week beforehand. They told me it sometimes takes seven business days to process deposits especially with new accounts. I told them it was a several-month-old account. And then told them to close my account. I switched banks and am now happy.

Seriously, though. Seven business days? Not to mention that it's fucking stupid to charge an overdraft fee ten times (or more!) what the actual overdraft is.
