A random bit of family lore.
My mother was brought up Catholic at a time when Mass was still conducted in Latin. She picked up a few bastardized words here and there, but not enough for any real understanding. Come Christmastide, she was always mystified by the refrain of "Adeste Fideles," as she thought that "venite adoremus" meant "here comes a dormouse."
