Ten Little Chances to be Free ([personal profile] tenlittlebullets) wrote2006-10-12 01:18 pm

Starts with an earthquake, birds and snakes, an aeroplane...

Twenty minutes ago I heard a giant jet engine that sounded like it was a couple hundred feet off the ground and way too close to our house.  I spent about two seconds flipping out about airplane terrorism before I ran to the window and saw that it was a formation of fighter jets flying very low along the river.  Weird.  They've only flown near our house once or twice in my lifetime.  I turn on the news, nothing relevant, then five minutes later another group comes flying by and nearly breaks my eardrums.

What the shit.  Are they training or something?  And if so, why are they out here?  I don't remember them coming that near our house, ever.

Hello, paranoia.

At any rate, a poll before I trot off to class, because I've been reading Waterloo and it makes me a happy little fangirl.

[Poll #843223]

No seriously.  I'm torn.

I live by an airport, and thanks to bitchy neighbors making a fit, our whole neighborhood got soundproof windows and doors, and central air/heating (since the soundproof windows don't open) on the airport's dime. I couldn't sleep for weeks, cos it was too eerily quiet. The paradigm of my childhood was random periods where everyone stands around silent, cos a giant jet is ROARRRRing overhead. :D

Aeh, actually, Cambronne didn't die at Waterloo.
He was shot after the "Merde!" bit, but he survived (although he was captured by the English, if I remember correctly...need to look that up) and later on even married the nurse who took care of him.

To make that reply and then perish, what could be grander? For being willing to die is the same as to die; and it was not this man's fault if he survived after he was shot.

That's what Hugo says.

...Oh, here it is. He was named viscount and had a load of other honours heaped upon him by Louis XVIII in 1820, then he retired in 1823 and died in 1842. Wikipedia, what would I do without you...

Also, damn, I love your subject line :)

Well, damn.

I suppose it's the thought that counts. XD

[identity profile] jean-le-cric.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean, it really isn't his fault if the English are no good at shooting. XD

Oh, on a random note: http://www.youtube.com/profile_videos?user=Queenisgod
NDdP on YouTube, the whole thing, uploaded song by song. Just in case you haven't seen it already.

I haaave. I still like the music, but holy god, the staging hurts my eyes.

[identity profile] jean-le-cric.livejournal.com 2006-10-12 07:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Aeh, yes. It was such a wonderful opportunity to bring out all the greatness of book!canon, what with the music and the lyrics being shiny and admirably true to the book, and then they had to go and be all "artistic" and "modern" about the staging. Eh.

Not to mention the subtitles on those things... My command of French is far from perfect, but I can easily do better.

It's the Luftwaffe. They found out about the firework railway bombing incident in Indiana Vichy France and have come to exact their revenge.

But really, how unnerving. I think it´s time to fortify your basement. Caloo caleigh! It´s judgement day!

clearly, they are plotting something horrible. Or not.

I admit it, I'm biased. ;-;

I just read in the paper about the plane that crashed into the apartment building in NYC yesterday, and the military apparently sent out fighter jets to fly over several major US cities within ten minutes of the crash, just in case. So I guess that was it, maybe?

Also, having just read Enjolras' death scene, all I can say is: GRANTAAAAAIRE! "Will you permit it?" Awww. *clings*

Well, thanks, Hugo, for BREAKING MY HEART. *sob*

My Brick has a tendency to just fall open to that chapter, I've read it so many times. *sobs along with you*

Apparently the fighter jets were part of some ceremony, so no cause for paranoia.
