New York recap

- Understudy day! Nikki Renée Daniels as Fantine and Marissa McGowan as Cosette in the matinee. Nikki as Fantine, Megan McGinnis as Eponine, and Idara Victor as Cosette in the evening.
- Nikki's wonderful. She has a prettier voice than Lea, and I like her better in Fantine's arrest. (Yeah, sue me. I still have to concede IDAD and Come to Me to Lea though.)
- Marissa as Cosette is cuuuuute. A bit thin on the high notes, but much more solid with them than Ali.
- With Idara I just kind of felt like I was seeing a generic Cosette. Not bad by any stretch of the imagination, but kind of a bland ingénue. Strongest voice of the three, maybe even too strong; man, that girl's got some fast vibrato on her.
- The few costume changes for the revival don't apply to understudies. Both Marissa and Idara had the old Cosette outfit instead of the white nightgown dress. And when Marya Grandy was on as Mme T last week she had a full-length skirt in the wedding.
- I totally hadn't noticed the lesbian whores in Lovely Ladies before. Haha.
- I lovelovelove Dan-as-Bamatabois' smug little smirk when Fantine starts hurling abuse at him, before she attacks him. Nikki didn't hit him hard enough in the matinee! He had to knock his own hat off.
- But Dan was out in the evening. :( Stephen Trafton covered for him, which... okay, he's adorable as Combeferre, but he's way too cute to look threatening as Bambi.
- Nehal Joshi did the chicken dance on top of the table in Master of the House. I die.
- Before the evening show, one of the ushers came up to Jenn to tell her exactly how illegal it was to record the show! Apparently he'd seen her fiddling with the recorder she'd oh-so-innocently kept in her purse, and just wanted to make sure she didn't get any funny ideas in her head.
- [livejournal.com profile] mmebahorel joined us at the stage door after both shows. :D And there was much fangirling.
- Drew does not read slash. Drew does not, in fact, even know what fanfiction is, and the "wtf?" look on his face when I asked him is still making me giggle.
- Norm is just the sweetest person ever. Awwwww.

One will note that I have completely avoided mentioning Aaron, since most of what happened in between the points listed above consisted of lots and lots of Aaron fangirling. Which y'all are probably sick of.

"Drew does not read slash. Drew does not, in fact, even know what fanfiction is, and the "wtf?" look on his face when I asked him is still making me giggle."

... I think you just won at life. I think I would be way too embarrassed to ask any actors that.

I feel the need to point out that she would have been too chicken to ask it at all were [livejournal.com profile] mmebahorel and I not reminding her right in front of him. XD

...what they said. Evil bitches. XD

The look on his face was so priceless. "No, what's fan... fiction?"

Drew doesn't know about fanfic but made his career in Germany, ha! (That's where I first heard of RPS...)

There are lesbian whores? XD I shall certainly have to look out for that when I next go.

So, Nikki is that good, eh? Haven't heard her as Fantine, although, from what I've listened to, Lea seems hard to beat.

Oh, Nikki's amazing. Her voice is a little richer than Lea's and it has this sort of sparkle to it--they both have really pretty voices, but Nikki just has that extra something.
