Exciting things. :D

Going to the post office, then to UMD. If I don't die in a horrible rush-hour accident on the Beltway, I should return and have some shiny new geekstuff for all of you for Barricade Day.

Have been looking into expenses for the French program I've decided on; it amuses me but does not surprise me that the airplane tickets might end up costing more than the program itself. (No wait, scratch that, program costs are in euros and I've forgotten how weak the dollar is. Woe.) And speaking of airfares, I usually fly with my parents who insist on nonstop flights, so I need the opinion of a more seasoned traveller: are there any airports I should actively avoid a transfer in? Dulles-De Gaulle-Bordeaux is possible (and faster), but it's a few hundred dollars cheaper to go National-JFK (or Atlanta or Boston)-De Gaulle-Bordeaux.

I recommend using STA travel. I got my round-trip ticket to Paris for $700.

Wait, you're at UMD??! O_o

Um, if you're doing a study abroad through UMD, their study abroad office should help you out with travel flight things.

Also, no whining about the dollar to the euro. The euro isn't that bad compared to . . . the POUND.AUGH.

Noooo, I just raid their library for French Revolution-related shiny things. I don't think I'd ever actually study there; it's huge and doesn't have anything besides the library that particularly interests me.

JFK scares me a little, but Air France is Terminal 1 and Delta is Terminal 2, so I might consider it. But only if money becomes an issue.

Hmmm, ok, I'd check a map to make sure those are actually close, though.

And I was thinking I'd raid the library when I got home, but I think my ability to check out books just ran out. boo. I could still read them in the lib, though, and I'm sure nobody would notice I don't belong anymore! :-D

The Office of International Programs might be helpful too: http://www.international.umd.edu/

I know somebody there also, but I think contacting them in general will probably be more useful. I don't know that he actually deals with these things.

And I usually go out of Dulles, but I don't see what's wrong with National. JFK is a nightmare and involves running. Can't think of anything wrong with De Gaulle.

I feel like my Bostonian friend said something negative about Boston, but I think it has to do with runway time and precision of the landing and possibility of getting killed because of need for precision rather than with running around in the actual airport.
