Le jour de gloire est arrivé!

Fireworks were nifty--I don't think I've seen a professional fireworks show since I was about three years old, so that was lots of fun. I got a few video clips of the fireworks with my digital camera, all of dubious quality, which might get uploaded if I ever bother getting them onto the computer. I was supposed to meet my friends on the quay at ten, but given that half of Bordeaux was on the quay, we didn't manage to find each other. Which is probably just as well; if we had, it would have ended in us spending far too much money on drinks, and probably them goading me into singing the Carmagnole at the top of my lungs as we stumbled through a back alley somewhere.

Now, a fête nationale is a fête nationale, and it's going to be an excuse to blow things up whatever country you happen to be celebrating. All the same, I think the French have a better excuse than the Americans; after all, launching your fledgling and ill-equipped country into war against a superior power isn't exactly the best occasion to waste your supplies by shooting off fireworks. Whereas if you've just, er, liberated a fortress of its supply of gunpowder... now that is a good excuse to go wild and make things go boom. :D

Is it counter-revolutionary to spend your quatorze juillet in the heart of the Gironde? XD
