Photo post: Montreuil-sur-Mer

The entrance to the upper town, through the ramparts.

Pedestrian entrance.

Cuuuute.

This photo and the next one are competing for which used to be Valjean's factory.

Pretty little houses and cobblestone streets.

"Son et Lumiere" is the Les Mis show, by the way.

Believe it or not, that is a private residence down the street, not a florist. ;)

The lower city as seen from the upper city.

This is where the "sur Mer" part comes from, though the river is a bit separated from the city now.

Don't fall in!

This was the first shop I saw named after a Les Mis character, but nothing could prepare me for...

Yes, it's a lingerie shop.

Gardens and such.

This is right at the entrance.

View from the ramparts.

View of the ramparts.

The oldest part of the citadel.

The grey building in the background is the entrance to the citadel.

And my personal favorite, the bridge over the ramparts.

Paris photo posts forthcoming; I have an asston of pictures that I need to get sorted, and I still haven't been to Montfermeil. Because I am a nerd, this will probably result in the Mizfandom Paris Tour Guide or something equally insane.

The Louvre was fucking exhausting--amazing, but exhausting--and I'm glad I did Notre-Dame and Sainte-Chappelle and the Conciergie in the morning, because there's no way I would've had the energy for them after the Louvre. I ended up just punting, wandering around the Tuileries, watching the sun set over the Place de la Révolution Concorde, and getting dinner at a random café on the way home. (With a nice waiter. Yay! One of the few snobby-Parisian stereotypes I've encountered for real is that the waiters tend to be a bit condescending, but there are always exceptions.)

There are only a few things left that I omg totally have to do--Montfermeil, the Catacombs, and the Palais Garnier. Will probably visit the Palais Garnier on Friday, since there's an airport shuttle that leaves from the rue Scribe, which means catacombs tomorrow morning, Montfermeil in the afternoon, and maybe Père Lachaise or Montmartre if I have time afterwards.

Thank you!

And yeah, I had an unfortunate attack of the giggles right there in the street. It's so awful and yet so... ahahahaha.

THANK YOU FOR THE PHOTOS. They are GORGEOUS and HAHAHA FANTINE'S LINGERIE.

I'd totally shop at Gavroche, too.

Thaaanks. :D

Gavroche is very popular over here. ;) I managed to snag a photo of the boat named Gavroche that I saw cruising the Seine, but it was going by so fast that the photo might not have turned out.

Wow it looks a lot like old Swedish towns. So cute!

It's kind of suffocatingly cute, really. XD But yes, pretty.

Now I know where to shop for underwear in the event that I become a prostitute to keep my illegitimate daughter from being turned out into the streets. ^_^

The French are so sensible about having options for situations like that.

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2007-08-05 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Probably because it happens so often.
