I placed into French 230. Which is a lit class. Which means I'm not allowed to take any plain old language instruction--straight into the frying pan with me!

You guys, I'm so happy but I'm probably going to die this semester from all the homework. And in a way it's a good thing that I won't be forced to make stupid oral presentations about what I did this summer, but writing essays in French about Maupassant might be excruciating in the opposite way. The holy shit I am not prepared to do this way.

The (other?) good news is that I get to audit Latin I, which means I only have to do the tests, not the homework. And I got into all the classes I wanted, and my adviser talked me into taking a few deep breaths and signing up for Computer Science I, not II.

...and I'm taking Old Norse! :D

And now that I have carted all my sheet music downstairs to the piano in the living room, there may or may not be quasi-regular musical theater singalongs in Tyler House from now on.

Lucky you! I was going to audit Latin last year, but the teacher was so pissed that she had extra classes that year that she didn't let me. Alas!

Awwww. Yeah, the Latin department here seems pretty rigid, but luckily the Latin I prof was understanding.

I am really really jealous about the Old Norse. I went to every. single. freakin. prof. who. might. know. it. at. UMD. to try to get Old English taught, but NO. And you get Old Norse?! Not fair!

Oh yes. And the guy who teaches it also teaches Old English and medieval Welsh. And he said he might be able to prod one of his colleagues into offering Old French if I rope enough people into it.

I have no doubt he'd succeed. He's very, um, persuasive. By which I mean he almost convinced me to double-major in Medieval Studies within about a five-minute conversation.
