I love fall.
:D I cleaned and redecorated my room today! I am a cheapass, so instead of buying posters I went to the library and printed out the most high-resolution images I could find of the art I wanted. So now I have "Ophelia" and "The Siren" by Waterhouse, "The Huguenot" and "Autumn Leaves" by Millais, "Romeo and Juliet" by Dicksee, "Hypatia" by Mitchell, and "Sappho and Erinna" by Solomon on my walls. I also put up the blacklight Christmas lights.
I think I scare my French class. We've been studying Haussmann's renovations of Paris, and while everyone else was talking about promenades on the grands boulevards and public parks and department stores and gas lamps, I was breaking in with things like "You know why those roads are wide and straight and paved, right? Because you can't march troops and cannon down a winding medieval street, and you can't build a barricade on a giant boulevard with no paving stones!" and "And then there was the cholera. And the sewer system. Oh boy, the sewer system."
Also yesterday was Mountain Day! For those who don't go to schools with a similar tradition, the president of the college picks a gorgeous fall day and rings all the bells at the crack of dawn to announce that classes are cancelled and we should all go enjoy the weather. So a group of seven of us took the bus out to the middle of nowhere, then walked another mile into nowhere to this cute little orchard where we all went apple-picking. Yesterday was not exactly gorgeous--chilly and occasionally rainy--but after we'd been walking a while the weather was quite enjoyable. And I got fresh apples and cider. Mmmmm.

And I really wish we had Mountain Day here. That sounds like a dream come true. Absolutely gorgeous concept. Quite envious. So envious it makes me write in fragments. Where are you at for college (I feel like I should know this answer but I don't)?

That's an awesome idea. Because I suck at knowing art, I actually *just* discovered the Huguenot painting yesterday because it was someone's icon. It's so gorgeous. I kind of want to print out a copy myself now. (Although I quite like the one of two posters I have in my room as well - the whole young Cosette drawing, not just the face, from the 1980 Les Mis CD. *g*)
Also jealous of your apples and cider. Sounds delicios.

And I love Bayard's illustrations. I wish I could find a bigger version of this to put up on my wall. There's also one for "War Between Four Walls" that I think is Bayard, that features a disgustingly pretty Enjolras about to get shot.

Yeah, that was beautiful. I'm probably gonna go make some icons now. *g*

This is the motherlode of LM illustrations, but not all of them lend well to icons. Alas.

Yeah, I googled for the picture you were talking about and came up with the page. argh, I have a feeling I will not be able to tear myself away from the pretty pictures for the rest of the day.

The "War Between Four Walls" one that I mentioned is up there--it's actually by Lix--but it lost a lot in the scan. In my printed version it's quite obvious that Enjolras is blond and looks about fourteen years old. XD
