I ♥ Raymond Bernard.

You know what's pretty goddamn awesome?

The 1933 movie version of Les Mis, that's what.

There are parts of it up on YouTube. Check that shit out if you know what's good for you.

Yes! Charles Vanel was awesome in that.

Do you have a copy of the Jean Gabin one?

Yep. It's also pretty damn awesome, but I think I like the '33 one better--it looks and sounds less dated.

From what I saw, I may too, but I have these 2 DVDs of the one that are looking for a good home.

YAY. I am so thrilled people are loving it - and now I see that I don't have to put the next part up. My favorite version (although I haven't seen 1982, but I doubt it could replace the love I have for this one.)

Also, like Eponine, I think I am a little in love with Marius.

Haha yes, Marius was very very pretty. And speaking of Eponine, I think this is the best anyone's ever done her death scene--right down to the eyes shining with the light of another world. ♥

Yeah. And Bernard overuses the tilting camera a bit but I thought it worked very well for that scene.

Besides Marius being very very pretty, I find myself defending his and Cosette's acting, because on the Criterion forums pretty much everyone gets praise there except though two. Yes, he's very hammy in the scene when the Thenardiers are robbing Valjean but I think he has a couple of really good moments - two that stick out are when Gavorche comes up to him and asks him why he's so sad, and then starts reciting the "ni femmes, ni parents" refrain and Marius looks up like he's going to kill the next person who says that to him, and the lovely scene where Valjean comes to take him to Cosette, and the amis are singing La Marseillaise, and Valjean kinda looks at him like, "oh, those poor kids" and Marius looks back at him like he agrees, but too many people have died now, and he straitens his back, looks determined, and goes off to join them.

Forgive my rambling. I heart this movie, in cae you couldn't tell. :)

damn. I still haven't had time to watch it! And I want to see in a bigger screen than my laptop. I'll try to burn it tomorrow and watch it on the tv.
