Incompetent ass-millinery on sale in aisle 3.
Okay. So the good news is: my brakes are not failing, my car is not randomly falling apart in unrelated ways, and it's not going to be too expensive to fix.
The bad news is that I now have two separate sets of mechanics to call and harass for my money back. Because see, what happened is that when I got my bent tie rod replaced, the shop that did it not only left a wrench under my hood (which, thank god, I found and removed before it could come loose and smash through my windshield or something), they failed to tighten one of the wing nuts. Which then came loose and was rattling around fouling up the works and causing the scraping sound when I braked. It also, surprise surprise, threw the alignment off again.
So now I have to call those incompetent fuckwads up and yell at them and get them to at least reimburse me for the realignment they did which is now fucking USELESS because thanks to their idiocy I had to get it realigned again. I also got a disgustingly cheery customer satisfaction survey from the Honda dealership where I took it in for scheduled maintenance last week, asked if an inspection was included in the maintenance, and told them flat-out I was going to be driving it all over creation this summer and that it had just had a tie rod replaced by a potentially-dodgy garage and would they please make extra sure to see that everything was okay in the steering system. And they told me everything was just fine and fucking dandy. Three days later the loose wing nut comes off entirely and gets stuck in the brake system. Thanks a lot for the close inspection, fuckheads.
I gotta say, the guys who replaced the tie rod are very, very lucky that they're in Maryland and I'm in Massachusetts now, else I'd go back in there and demonstrate the non-automotive meaning of the word "throttle" on them.
