Linux blather. be afraid.
First of all: have a gift! Sumi Jo's bel canto solo album, which I figured I'd better rip before I wore holes in the CD from all the times I've played it in my car.
Also: The Damned - Phantasmagoria, which I guess is what happens when a punk band decide to make a rock album by way of goth. Or something. It's a kickass album at any rate, and includes 'Street of Dreams' which I had on the music meme.
Now that Big Computer is fully operational again, I need to figure out what to do with my netbook. It's currently running a crippled proprietary Novell fork of SuSE Linux which is made of all kinds of fail, most of which can be traced back to being unable to install software due to a couple of geeky things I won't go into here. I really wanted to install Ubuntu Netbook Remix on it, especially since you can download the image straight to a USB stick without having to go through a LiveCD, but apparently Ubuntu Netbook Remix support for my graphics card is practically nonexistent. Which means all the graphics has to be done through software rendering, which would be incredibly slow and resource-intensive even on a computer with a better processor and more memory than my poor little netbook. To top it off, in addition to the pitiful graphics UNR apparently has problems making the wireless work on the brand of netbook I'm using.
I'll still probably try it, but I have to resign myself ahead of time to not being able to use Ubuntu (of any variety) on the stupid thing. The next best option might be OpenSuSE, the non-crippled open-source version of the OS it's currently running. OpenSuSE isn't designed for netbooks but if it supports my graphics card it might be my best option. There's also various 'miniature' Linux distros (like Mint, which claims to be user-friendly but it's based on Debian, which I have grappled with in the past and have no intention of grappling with in the future). Or... I could just keep the crippled OS on it and resign myself to having no media and very little configurability when I, say, take it traveling.
Also: answers to the music meme from the other day. Yay?

I was wondering how I didn't recognize the lyrics to that because I have the album 'cause I like some of the songs (I think "You are Music" is gorgeous)but I see it's because but I still have not listened past the opening two seconds of that "You Are My Own" song because it hits every one of my "no this song is too embarassing I embarassed for the people who wrote it and the concept and it's so cheesy oh my God" buttons.
And I am perpetually getting the music mixed up with the music from Beauty and the Beast because it sounds so, so similar.
Well, that and the guy who played Gaston is the Phantom. I think the main difference between the two shows/characters is when Gaston tries to force you into marriage, it's bad. When the Phantom does it, it's cause he's lonely and ugly (yet sexy).
