Letting my flist know I'm not dead
I am not dead, flist!
I am in Munich, actually. Left Salzburg and the cognitive dissonance caused by omnipresent Rococo (omg it's so pretty vs. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE HAVE REVOLUTIONS) for Neuschwanstein and different sorts of cognitive dissonance. Neo-Gothic pseudo-medieval castle built by an eccentric, reclusive king in the majesty of nature vs. crass tourist commercialism: fight!
Also, I almost had an allergy meltdown on the way back. My immune system can deal with pollen, it can deal with horse dander, and it can deal with chocolate that might have traces of milk/nuts in it, but I should NOT have tested it out on all three at once. And yet I found nothing better to do than take a lovely horse-drawn carriage ride down the mountain in the middle of springtime while eating marzipan-filled chocolate.
And I got hazed by a bunch of Bavarian tweens who called me a witch 'cause I dressed funny and had bright red hair. This is the sort of thing that's absolutely crushing when you're the same age as your assailants, and absolutely hilarious when you're ten years older than them. I mean, WTF? Did they zero in on the language difference and figure I was easy prey? Once the social equality is removed by the age disparity, it's kind of like being savaged by a kitten. Only not as cute.
Anyway, it was actually a rather nice trip and I might write more about it later. But right now I am in Munich and my internet-cafe time is almost up, and I have a train to Ljubljana tonight. This time I even have a reservation for a bed in the sleeper car! Exciting.
And just for the record Germany is awesome.

Being savaged by a kitten, minus the cute? Sounds unpleasant. I've had similar experiences of twelve-year-olds and the like trying to be intimidating, and it's just so weird when you know the age difference, and they don't seem to.
Have a good train trip to "somewhere with an unpronounceable-looking name"!

Also, the beds have about as much padding as the seats on a Parisian bus, and yet they are somehow comfortable. Or at least more comfortable than the bed from our hotel in Digne.

Enjoy the sleeper car!

It's funny being German. Whenever someone says this, you feel the urge to disagree. But if you had written "Germany is shit", I would still have tried to defend it.
Neuschwanstein is overrated IMHO, and the aspect of being shoved through rooms with thousands of other tourists always put me off.
And I've never liked the south of Germany. I don't like the dialect and I don't like the attitude. The north, however, is awesome. As in, Hamburg and such.
But I'm glad you're enjoying your trip through Europe, and I hope you had/have fun in Slovenia! ;)
Anyway. This was a rather negative comment. Whoops. As I said, have fun!

Am going to Berlin and Hamburg at the end of the trip! Looking forward to it.

I'd love to explore Germany! My former London flatmate (whom I'm meeting up with again in London this time around - yay) is Bavarian, and keeps asking when I'll visit.
