Mostly I love how (as I say in my pimping post) you've used the Doctor as a mirror for the Master, rather than the other way around. It's very very clever and I love it to pieces - the whole way you've highlighted how they're so not human is just brilliant. (I love it when vids do something I've not seen before.) And you've reminded me that I really, really need to brush the cobwebs off the meta I've been sitting on for the past few months, which is all about RTD and Moffat and how they write/what they've done with the Doctor. Because there is a great, great shift in the way the Doctor is perceived...

Re: mirroring: it is something that happens in those episodes, I think, where of course Simm!Master is designed right off the bat to be a dark mirror of Ten, but he also brings out a side of Ten that we've never seen so starkly before. The part of him that is not human, is on such another level entirely that he wouldn't even blink before using humans as his pawns in a chess game with another entity on his level. That's something we haven't really seen since Seven (or maybe we have and I'm preoccupied because I'm in the middle of writing Curse of Fenric meta).
There's also the performativity of it all, which is what drew me to the song in the first place--in the music video, the band members rob a bank as a publicity stunt, in a slightly bitter commentary on media circuses. So of course it became "remember that one time the Master took over the world as a publicity stunt?" And the logical place to go for the verse that shifts from "I" to "we" was the Doctor, Mr. "I can lead a nation with a microphone, with a microphone, with a microphone," and Eleven's bad habit of telling his enemies to fuck off based on his image and reputation alone.

*blushes* (Someone like me? I am Someone?)

... You have just made me realise why I love Ten/Master. (And why I love Ten the best when he's either up against the Master, or Victorious.) I've yet to watch Curse of Fenric, but I *have* watched some Seven and I love, love, love the chess playing aspect, and the fact that this is his default mode. It's also a trait I love in Eleven, but I'd never before thought about the fact that it's only really when the Master is around that it comes out in Ten. Oh you are brilliant! You have NO IDEA the amount of meta I could write around the Doctor and chess. It is possibly my favourite metaphor EVER.
And the logical place to go for the verse that shifts from "I" to "we" was the Doctor, Mr. "I can lead a nation with a microphone, with a microphone, with a microphone," and Eleven's bad habit of telling his enemies to fuck off based on his image and reputation alone.
*nods a lot* Although Moffat, thank goodness, has removed that crutch. But, it'll not stop him from playing chess. (Have you seen The Happiness Patrol? Seven overthrows a whole society in one night. So many aspects of that episode are completely ridiculous, but oh, he's good. Never uses his name, just... moves people into the right positions. If Eleven, thanks to being officially dead, becomes even more Seven-like in future I might just pass out from joy.)
(It's late, I'm tired, hence rambling. But it's SUCH a good vid.)

At any rate, Fenric's only non-trivial flaw is that it is an eight-episode serial crammed into four episodes, and you practically have to take notes on the plot or you will get lost amidst Vikings, chess, cosmic evil from the dawn of time, trans-generational curses, Enigma machines, Soviets, faith, sex, allegiance and betrayal, timey-wimey, and zombie vampire succubi from the future.

I very much intend to! (I even have it on tape!) I just want to watch stuff in order, because... Well, that's what I'm like. :)

But oh, man, if I could only find an appropriate song I would vid the hell out of chess in Doctor Who, the unholy trifecta of Fenric, Utopia/SoD/LotTL, and Wedding of River Song, and losing in order to win a bigger game.
