Y'know, I have this amazing ability when I first look over the translation of a non-English song to completely not get the lyrics, even translated. It just sort of goes right over my head, and when I go back to it I'm like, "Yaaargh! That's what that's about?" That was the only thing that kept me from squicking out when I first started listening to Rammstein, and with the little brain-lapse came time for that wicked part of me to creep up and whisper, "Well, it's a little weird and a little gross, but it's also really interesting... and cool, in the same way that a tornado wrecking a town is cool in a certain light."

And when I say it goes over my head, I mean completely. So completely that when I first skimmed over this, I came away with the slightly depressing mental image of a ship stuck at sea. And now, a month later, I go back to it for shits and giggles to see if I could pick out any words after two months of Russian class, and I finally get it. Took me long enough, hm?

Of course, the wicked little voice has reappeared, and now I think I'm considerably more fond of that song. In fact, now it's right up there with "Halleluja."

And for the record, I did pick out some Russian words. Specifically, "Да," "Нет," "Наш," and "Твоя," which I think says something about the public education system. *kicks school* Or perhaps I'm just discouraged because I picked up a semi-conversational level of German over the course of three months.
