I submitted a fic to FFn two days ago. It's gotten four reviews, all of which include the words "well written."

What kind of crack are these reviewers smoking, man?

Mind you, I've just rediscovered my copy of The Elements of Style tonight, so I now cringe upon rereading said fic and want to jump all over it with the Evil Red Pen of Doom and fix all the weak prose. I know that anything that's not utter drivel shines like a gem in the Pit of Voles, but the writing style of this fic is really its weak point: it sounds like an RPG post transcribed into the past tense, which it pretty much is. Flattery on plot, uniqueness, or characterization I could understand, but "well written?" Tell me another one, Pinocchio.

We went to a little art store yesterday to get a posterboard for the project I've just completed. While we were there, I wheedled mom into getting me a sketchbook, art pencils, a kneaded eraser, and a decent pen, all of which are causing me to squee and attack the sketchbook with wild abandon. And man, my sketching sucks. Even with good pencils.

And just for the record, Nightwish rock my socks, as do Theatre of Tragedy. Opera + metal = strangely compelling.
