A plea to all you musical theater types on my flist:

I am woefully musical theater illiterate. Woefully. And for one of my classes I'm supposed to have been listening to four shows a week I've never heard before, then writing responses. Needless to say, this has not been done, and the responses are due a week from today so I'm in for a busy week. I write this entry to humbly request cast recordings from you lot--the library has a decent collection of Rogers and Hammerstein type shows, but I do want some variety here, and they don't have many recent ones. So. A Grand List of Shows Marianne Has Never Heard But Really Should. I entertain no hope of being sent all of these, so I'll mark the ones I really want with asterisks. And I know this list is absolutely shameful and I have no excuse.

Rent *
Wicked *
The Last 5 Years *
Assassins *
The Producers
Spamalot
A Chorus Line
Into The Woods *
A Little Night Music
West Side Story *
Ragtime
Godspell
1776
La Cage aux Folles
Chicago
Victor/Victoria
Chess
Pirates of Penzance * [Shhh, it counts as musical theater. G&S = ♥]
HMS Pinafore

Also, a shorter list of Shows Marianne Has Heard But Does Not Own Recordings Of And Wants To.
Phantom [The Yeston one. I had this at some point and lost it, and if you send it to me you win the internet.] [Annnnd [livejournal.com profile] mrandal wins the internet. Here, have a shiny new internet.]
Little Shop of Horrors [I was in a production of this once. I forget half the music but remember it's a riot.]
Sweeney Todd [Sondheim = ♥. I have a decent-quality amateur recording lying around, but a professional one would be nice.]
My Fair Lady [For nostalgia purposes. I was practically raised on this show.]
Cabaret [WHERE DID MY CD OF THIS GO OMG.] [Never mind, I found it.]

I'd also love to get recordings of any odd, slightly obscure little shows you happen to really like. Or anything that's not R&H that isn't on the list and you think it should be. [Off the top of my head, I have recordings of The Secret Garden, Company, Camelot, Miss Saigon, Jekyll & Hyde, Scarlet Pimpernel, Elisabeth, Notre-Dame de Paris, Romeo et Juliette, and of course Les Mis and ALW!Phantom lying around. So no need for those.]

YouSendIt is fine. Email is fine. AIM is fine; my screen name is Combeferret.

Oh, and how many of you have played Humiliation? I think it's usually done with books: you name a book that practically everyone has read and you haven't, and get points when you're the only one in the game who hasn't. I think there was a legendary game among university professors once where one of the literature profs yelled out "Hamlet!" and the room went dead silent. XD That's what this reminds me of. "My musical theater illiteracy is worse than yoooouuuuurs, neener neener."

(ETA: *facepalm* How did I forget Assassins and The Producers? I lose at life.)
