I'm almost done with The Count of Monte Cristo, and I was quite vexed to discover that not only was my version abridged, it cut out the entire Cavalcanti subplot, as well as Eugénie and Louise. Honestly! With that much liberty taken in abridgment, how is one to know how fiercely MM. Dumas and Hugo were striving for the title of Most Blatant Homosexual Subtext Evar?
Why, I might have to write Eugénie/Cosette as an act of personal revenge against the editor.
