Our ceiling leaks in places when the rain is heavy--not leaking per se, but the water gets in the ducts and the heat vents start to drip. Unfortunately there is a heat vent right over my desk, and last time we had a serious thunderstorm it got water all over my scanner and various art and paperwork on my desk. I quickly evacuated everything once I knew what was going on, but I tried to hook my scanner back in yesterday and it had all this water inside it. It's dead--when I plug it in, it lights up, but it won't scan. God damn it.

And Mom is on the warpath because the cat has been pissing on our bathroom rugs. So much so that she was muttering darkly about euthanasia while she cleaned the rugs. I think she's gotten over it, but he should probably steer clear of her for a while...

Your mom should be thinking of taking him to the vet -- not for euthanasia, but to see if the poor kitty has FUS. If he's pissing where he's not supposed to, FUS is a very real possibility, and he needs medical attention.

Actually, the whole incident arose from the vet. He was getting really sick, it turned out he hadn't been eating, and there was a big fuss with allergies and liver problems. The upshot of it all is that when he got home, he couldn't go outside, which is where he usually pisses. We've tried to get him to use the litter box, but to no avail...

We're letting him outside now though, so he shouldn't be taking leaks in the house. He's had FUS before and mom made the same threats then, but the vet examined him thoroughly two weeks ago--including his urinary tract--and he doesn't have any problems there. She thinks he's just mad at her for being locked in the guest bathroom at night (that's where the litter box is... he's not allowed out at night) and did it as revenge, in a bathroom he wasn't supposed to.

She probably won't have him put to sleep though--she made the very same threats five years ago when he had FUS, and besides we've already spent god knows how much on his vet bills already. To have him euthanized after we've spent that much on him would just be stupid.
