I think this was #30. Nice round number.
LJ, plz to stop being a crackwhore and actually load my f-page. :(
Long story short: I went up to NYC yesterday. I saw Coram Boy and it was excellent--and also nearly full, so maybe they'll be able to breathe a couple weeks' worth of life into it before it closes, who knows? It wasn't particularly deep or anything, but it had ambience out the wazoo and a damn good story, and I really enjoyed myself. Also, Xanthe Elbrick totally wins the universe.
I couldn't resist and bought a ticket for Les Mis at the last minute. Notes:
- Ben Davis is still totally awesome as Javert. I love the little double-take he does in the Robbery--"And on your witness, monsieur, I'll see him suitably--(looks up; hey where the hell did he go?!)--paid..."
- Lately Zach Rand has started to not suck as Gavroche. Doesn't scream as much, and actually makes the lyrics and blocking flow somewhat naturally. Whodathunk?
- I adore Matt's Grantaire. <3 Completely aside from the fact that "Better than an opera!" concluded in him prancing around with a couple of glasses pressed to his chest like boobies, he and Max actually have something going on in Drink With Me. Max just sits there until the very end of the song, then grabs Matt by the back of the collar--and Matt turns around like he wants to say something a couple of times, sees Max's face, and turns away with this completely heartbreaking look on his face. Awwww.
- Poor Max has been getting a barrage of very awkward questions at the stage door; first it was the wig, then I asked him about the B flat in the final battle. And he said "Yeah, we talked about it a little, but I don't have a B flat. And I think John Caird would rather we shouted it anyway." He looked rather embarrassed about it, aww. I felt kind of guilty for asking after that.
- Nehal is a total darling. Just in case anyone missed that.
Okay, it is kind of sick that I wrote... three sentences on the entirety of Coram Boy and five paragraphs about nitpicky little LM things. But Coram Boy really is good and you should all go see it if you can. Fun stuff.
...and then I took the bus home and got no sleep whatever and I have to be at work in forty-five minutes. Ack.
