A quick poll.
Day of Silence is tomorrow. There is no way in hell I can go to work and not speak, but I just might be able to get away with wearing this shirt. (Not me in the photo, but same shirt design.) Maybe with some sort of Day of Silence card pinned to it so it doesn't look like I'm just wearing it at random.
Of course, whether I can and whether I should are completely different issues. I work retail; I'm fully prepared to deal with any harassment as the consequences of breaking the silence (by throwing the homophobic bastards out on their asses), but there remains the question of whether or not it's ludicrously inappropriate. It's a pretty casual independent pet store and there's a fair chance the owner would be okay with it--her stated dress code is "as long as it's not filthy and doesn't have any swearwords on it"--but there remains the issue of whether a shirt that says "NOBODY KNOWS I'M A LESBIAN" in big block letters is totally un-kosher for work.
[Poll #1176764]
(There's also the slight fact that my boss has the day off tomorrow, and we haven't talked this out in advance. So I could chicken out and not wear it, I could be a good girl and call her to ask if it's okay, or I could take her at her word on the dress code on the philosophy that it's easier to ask forgiveness than permission.)
