Smiiiiith.
So I'm at Smith now. There's been too much going on for me to do a comprehensive update, and I'm sure none of you are interested in the scintillating details of my dining-hall adventures, but suffice to say everything has been lovely, if a bit hectic and disorganized. And I've already met and befriended a fellow Simon's Rock refugee who pretty much shares my impression of the place--and my taste in music. She's going to burn me some Rasputina CDs if I lend her some Sisters of Mercy.
I also want to brag briefly about my dorm room, which is a single in one of the old Victorian houses in the middle of campus. (I know there are some Smithies on my list, so--Tyler 317. Drop by, yo.) And it is lovely and old and quite spacious for a single, and I managed to decorate it such that it doesn't look like I raided the 'ugly dorm furniture' section of Target. Pictures will be forthcoming at some point.
Oh and is it bad that I'm now considering a double major in computer science and medieval studies? Because I happened to talk to the head of the medieval studies department and he is awesome and pretty much admitted that the major is a catchall for whatever nerdy things people want to do, which in my case makes it a big fat excuse to get a degree studying Norse and Old French and medieval Welsh. He also slagged off on the blowhards in the classics department, who pretty much told me that I could take my one semester of community-college Latin and shove it up my ass because I wasn't good enough for their second-semester class.
And--shit, there's so much I want to do. Computer science and discrete math, medieval and ancient languages, enough French credits to let me do a year abroad in Paris, music, history, linguistics... I'm actually lucky Smith yanked all my transfer credit out from under me, because that makes me a second-semester freshman and gives me seven semesters to take everything I want instead of five.
