Microsoft fails at software design once again.
My father--who, last I checked, was still mildly upset over my piratical ways and was convinced the RIAA was going to come bust down my door and sue me for everything I had and snatch my first-born from the cradle--agreed to buy me an mp3 player. On the condition that I teach him how to pirate music. Oh man, this is going to be fun.
I got a Zune because they're the only thing besides the iPod that has the storage space I need, and in my experience Apple products don't play well with Windows. At the moment I'm half-wishing I'd gotten an iPod because it would mean getting to use iTunes, which may be a bloated memory hog but oh god, the horrible Zune software is making me pine for iTunes. It's so badly designed. The interface is more "LOOK HOW PRETTY WE CAN MAKE OUR PROGRAMS" than actually usable, you CAN'T make albums display as text instead of bulky cover-art images, if it doesn't have cover art it doesn't put up placeholder text, and you can't import individual files or folders. You have to tell it what your music folder(s) is/are and it just grabs everything in them. And its handling of albums with multiple artists SUCKS and I just... urgh.
Also why are bootleg traders such absolute shits about tagging their mp3s. I have a billion loose "unknown artist"/"unknown album"s floating around, which again the Zune software is shit at handling, and a few Very Special Bootlegs that have splorted all over my artist list because SOMEONE put in the artist for each track as a list of the actors who were singing in that track. And this stupid fucking software won't recognize that songs from different artists can be part of the same album, so I can't assemble all of these tracks by album to batch-edit their tags.
So yes. It would appear that I'm going to spend all night tagging bootlegs before I can actually put anything on my mp3 player. Wonderful.
