I swear, there is no worse time (excluding the small hours of morning) in which to find a decent meal than 4 in the afternoon. Wandered all over town for almost an hour to find restaurants closed and bagel places out of bagels, until I finally gave up and went to the co-op. Just as well, since I found out that they make kickass sourdough baguettes there. Mmmm. As well as selling large quantities of milk-free food that would not ordinarily be milk-free, such as soy cookies 'n' cream ice cream.
