Broken links in empty fandoms, where the fic is dead and gone...

Lately there's been a veritable explosion of new Les Miz forums, communities, websites, &c. &c. &c.  And yet, somehow, the fandom is just as dead as it was before, the only difference being that now there are a few more dead forums, communities, and websites littering the wasteland.  Which leads me to the conclusion that the problem cannot be solved by enticing people into being active through the creation of new Places To Be Active; unfortunately for us and our lazy, lurkerish sensibilities, this sucker isn't going to kick itself back into life.  We must Create.  And Discuss.  And Write, and Draw, and generally be Active Fans instead of creating wide-open opportunities for other people to be Active Fans.

...she says, having produced zero fanfiction all summer.  But shhh.  I'm going to make an effort soon, I promise.  I have two new fics kicking around the dusty recesses of my skull, one of which is half-written, and I'm going to run a September challenge at [livejournal.com profile] revolution_but_ and possibly commandeer revive [livejournal.com profile] santafrenchboys, which ran once and then faded away, and really should be done again because it's a nifty idea.  And I might be doing a LM smut epic for NaNoWriMo.

I might also, er, update my website again.  I've been so awful about doing that.

There should be more revivals. To go along with the revival!

Yes, someone who is not me should organize another Frenchboy gift exchange. Because anything that forced me to write Jehan/R bondage fic for an underage recipient is totally worth reviving *g*.

I'm sort of working on stuff. Just, uhm, well, not very hard. (actually, I'm going to the library tomorrow to look up Greek War of Independence stuff. At which point I just might have enough information to get another chapter of Corner of the Sky done.)

Hey, I am all up for reviving this damn fandom. I will write any kind of fic (provided I have enough rum and advance notice) required.

It's pretty hard trying to yell out to other fans. Website, forum, Enjolras-porn, what else does a girl have to do? Adorn myself in costume and solicit on the street?

Adorn myself in costume and solicit on the street?

We're not supposed to?

I need to get off my backside and finish all the fics I've got lurking on my harddrive. Fandom revival would be good.

Ahaha. Actually, you know what, that would be a fun idea: Organise a nationwide Pimp Out Les Mis In Costume Day.

Of course, how we'd organise it, I don't know, this fandom's just that dead.

Thank goodness *someone* is going to do the revolution_but_ challenges. I'm all up for fanfics, but I haven't had much insperation of late, so I needs the prompts.

The trouble is that I'm ever so good at being a lurker...

I have a Les Mis to do list a mile long. I swear, if I finished everything on it I would have almost revived the fandom single-handedly. Except I'm blatantly not going to.

SantaFrenchboys is a nifty idea, though and [livejournal.com profile] revolution_but_ looks like it could be rather cool. I thikn my lj Miz-interest must be severely lacking, because I keep coming across comms I've never heard of. Sigh.

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-08-18 11:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Nooo, they multiply. Like rabbits. There should be a ban on creating new Miz-space until the comms we've got just aren't roomy enough. XD

Oh god, if I listed out all my aborted fic ideas for you... yeah, I know the feeling of "well, if I just finished my to-do list the fandom wouldn't be dead anymore!"

[identity profile] mmebahorel.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
I never heard of revolution_but_, but I have a suspicion that AmZ doesn't like me and thus participation would be a bad idea.

She just resigned modship anyway (and might not be active in fandom anymore), and I'd be happy to have you aboard.

[identity profile] josiana.livejournal.com 2006-08-19 10:15 am (UTC)(link)
Alas for our poor dead little fandom. Though, maybe this will inspire a conscious effort to participate more. Or. Er. Something.

Perhaps we're all anti-social.

I have SO much discussion I should be contributing, though I tend to either jot it on paper where people don't actually see or I make private entries, usually out of the fact that is has a lot to do with psychology and analyses of character names and things like that, and after e-lynchings after sharing things of that nature in different fandoms/becoming Fandom Pariah/winning Most Pretentious award, I'm sort of shy about it. If it's really welcome though, I'd be glad to hit up a few communities with it.

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, discussion and analysis is more than welcome. Especially where Les Mis is concerned, the worst you probably have to worry about is that no one will say anything at all.

(And, er, it's Les Misérables. If people don't want pretension, they can go write RPS or something.)

[identity profile] i-look-away.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 12:47 am (UTC)(link)
Then I will share!
(Funny, the e-lynchings in question did come from RPS-writing fandoms. XD I guess the literature-appreciating community is more open to analysis than the music-"appreciating" community, since we're like a big, happy English class that sometimes gets together and has orgies. Or something like that.)

[identity profile] 10littlebullets.livejournal.com 2006-08-20 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Better than an English class! No one but me in English class ever picked up on blatant homoerotic subtext.

Just provide a random generator and I'll be there, wherever there is. ;)
