More from Harsin's Barricades: 1832 from a historian's (as opposed to a fan's) perspective. One can easily distinguish the elements Hugo drew from in his construction of the Chanvrerie barricade: the use of artillery to take the most heavily defended fortifications; the retreat to nearby buildings, shooting from windows and dropping debris on the approaching troops; the strict honor of Charles Jeanne and the Saint-Méry insurgents.
