Jun. 6th, 2006 21:45In the beginning, there was a Barricade, and it was good. And then some hallowed fan decided to bake a cake in honor of all the dead Frenchboys, and lo! it was christened the Barricake. And now, ladies and gentlemen, I have a baked a batch of twenty-four shiny, peppermint-flavored, tricolor Barricupcakes. And built a barricade out of them plus assorted kitchen equipment. And yea, I took pictures, but truly is the spirit of evil tyranny among us, my friends, for my camera's USB cable hath vanished into thin air. Pictures shall be posted when I find it.
In other news, when I posted the clips from the 1988 Phantom ages ago, I mislabeled them as being of Yamaguchi. They weren't. This is. Holy crap.

May. 20th, 2006 18:29A wee question for the flist:
A man who has been hideously wronged by society becomes a father figure to an orphaned girl twenty to forty years his junior, then falls in love with her and throws a jealous shitfit when she wants to marry some charming young man he doesn't know.
A man who has been hideously wronged by society becomes a father figure to an orphaned girl forty-five-ish years his junior, then falls in love with her and throws a jealous shitfit when she wants to marry some charming young man he doesn't know.
Why is the first one tragically romantic and the second one squicky as hell?
ETA: *facepalm* That idea is not allowed to give me plotbunnies. NO.

May. 3rd, 2006 03:59Perhaps I was unable to realize or admit this when I was still seething at the idiocy of the PotO fandom... but as moving and deep and generally awesome as Les Mis is...
Phantom is prettier.
Period.
And there is much to be said for the pretty.
Not as much as for the moving and deep and generally awesome, but dammit, I have a weakness for the pretteh. In the way that involves pretty boys doing naughty things to each other, but even more in the way that involves frilly dresses and candlelit lairs and string sections that soar like a nightingale on LSD.
Yes, teh_foofy beats teh_gay.
As there is far more to Les Mis than teh_badly_suppressed_gay, this post should not in any way shape or form be taken as a fandom switch. I'm just sayin'. LM wins at plot, which is more important anyway, but has been soundly trounced in aesthetic appeal.

Mar. 19th, 2006 22:49So I was in the car, listening to a bootleg of Anthony Warlow in PotO sent to me by the lovely
puddleduck3, and I got to thinking about Phantom again. It's slightly odd, revisiting it after a good long period in various other fandoms, but not having it constantly on the brain does make it seem fresher when you come back to it, and I like to think I have more of a sense of perspective on it by now. And so, having not produced a long and caffeinated ramble in quite some time, I think it's time for a bit of meta.
( Assorted musings on the Erik/Christine/Raoul triangle. Probably not much new but ah well. )

Dec. 6th, 2005 21:00Darlings, I'm afraid I have far too many cracked-out fanfiction ideas running amok in my head, and as that pesky old writers' block is still making bogeyman faces at me from the corner, I don't dare try to write all of them. Yet. And so, just to fuel my ever-growing narcissism and hopefully give me a little kick in the rear on starting one of them, I present them in poll form.
